I agree, too, with Frank and Polar Pilot. And, I must add another comment... You said your bike is -86 and only has 5000 miles on the clock ? Well, then your bike is almost NEW ! 5 thousand miles is nothing for a big single (thumper) like this. This machine will last an eternity, if you just pay some attention to it, like you now are more or less being forced to do. Take my friendly advice, and try to change your own attitude just a bit. Realize, that if you make friends with your thumper and try to figure out about her needs a bit, then she will really not let you down ! Take her seriously, she deserves it. Ask somebody at the college who is good with engines to come and give you a basic lesson how this engine works,how the carb is working, and what are the things you need to check regularly. You have the Clymer manual, don't you ? If not, get it. Then you have a book to check when your memory is failing.
This will add significantly more confidence in your ego, and more joy in your life as a biker.
